Worth the Drive helps you find the gas station that costs you the least once the drive to get there is priced in. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking SDKs. It does not sell or share your personal information, and it does not build a profile of you.
This app is distributed in the United States only.
The only sensitive information the app uses is your precise location, and only while you are using the app (“when in use” permission). It is read at the moment you ask for nearby stations and is used solely to find gas stations near you, measure the driving detour to each one, and rank them by true cost. It is never linked to your identity and never used for tracking or advertising.
If you decline the location permission, station search will not work; nothing else about the app changes.
| Recipient | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Apple (MapKit / Core Location) | Your coordinates, and search and directions requests | To find nearby stations and estimate driving distance and time. Handled under Apple’s own privacy terms. |
| Our price proxy (Google Cloud Run) | A search area: a latitude/longitude center and a radius | To fetch fuel prices. No name, account, device identifier, or advertising identifier is attached to the request. |
| Google (Places API) | The same search area, forwarded by our proxy | To return per-station fuel prices. Google receives the request from our server, not from your device, and handles it under Google’s privacy policy. |
Your location is not sent anywhere else, and it is not transmitted at all when the app is in the background or closed.
Our price proxy exists so that a Google API key never ships inside the app, and so that usage stays inside a fixed budget. It is deliberately minimal, but it is not a black hole — here is exactly what it holds:
We keep no user accounts, no location history, and no record tying any search to a person or device.
Everything you enter in the app is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us:
This data is removed when you delete the app. If you use iCloud or encrypted device backups, it may be included in those backups under Apple’s terms, like any other app’s local data.
When you use the “Look up my car’s MPG” feature, the app sends the car’s year, make, and model to the U.S. Department of Energy’s public fueleconomy.gov service. No location and no identifying information are included.
When you tap to navigate to a station, the app hands the destination to Apple Maps or Google Maps. From that point the receiving app’s own privacy policy applies.
Worth the Drive is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services. Because we hold no account and no identifiable records, there is no stored personal profile to request, correct, or delete — deleting the app removes everything the app has kept about you.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
